The Certified Cost Professional (CCP®) is AACE International's flagship credential for cost engineering and total cost management. It validates expertise across the full project cost lifecycle and is recognized worldwide across construction, oil & gas, EPC, infrastructure, and energy sectors.

The exam consists of 119 simple and scenario multiple-choice questions plus 1 written memo, taken in up to 5 hours. AACE recommends allowing 40–60 minutes for the memo. The exam is delivered at a testing center or via online proctoring.

Under the May 2026 blueprint there are six scored domains plus the memo: Managing Project Costs (36%, 43 questions), Interface with Other Disciplines (24%, 28), Performance Measurement & Analysis (17%, 20), Create Reports & Documentation (11%, 13), Inform the Risk Management Process (7%, 9), Support the Scheduling Process (5%, 6) — and the Communication memo, a graded writing task. Your study time should follow the weights.

An overall average of 70% or higher across the 7 domains. You can score below 70% in individual domains and still pass, as long as your overall average clears 70%.

No — it's closed book, but on-screen formula sheets are provided during the exam. You may bring any stand-alone, battery-operated calculator (one is not provided), and scratch paper with a pen or pencil is permitted. You'll also need your AACE ID number for the memo.

AACE requires 8 years of industry-related experience, or 4 years of experience plus a 4-year industry-related degree. Experience must be verified by your employer — a CV or job description alone is not accepted. There is no technical paper requirement.

AACE charges $525 for members and $690 for non-members, with a resit fee of $260. You may take up to 2 resits within your 6-month registration period. These fees are paid to AACE directly and are separate from your training.

The multiple-choice portion is computer-scored, but the memo — which you type into an on-screen text box during the exam — is graded by AACE volunteer graders in monthly grading cycles (starting around the 15th). Results are emailed based on AACE's expected results calendar — typically around the 5th of the following month.

Every 3 years — by accumulating 12 CEUs (continuing education units) through professional development, or by retaking and passing the exam.
